In this video I have a ton of fun catching bass on my ultralight rod and reel. I spooled the micro set up with 4 lb. test Trilene XL. I was catching the bass on a Rooster Tail spinner bait and a Beetle Spin lure. In two hours I'd hooked up with twelve large mouths and one bluegill while fishing a small pond during the winter.

After fishing for about an hour and a half I lost the Rooster Tail to a rope that was holding a fountain in place floating in the middle of the lake. That's when I switched things up to a Rapala minnow. I tried that lure for about fifteen minutes without getting any hits at all. I then decided to tie on a Beetle Spin. On the first cast with the ultralight Shakespeare Micro Series five foot long fishing rod I landed a nice size large mouth bass. Soon afterward I caught a nice sized bluegill.

Here's the link to the rod I'm using:

The reel that I have on my micro fishing rod is a Shimanno FX200. I purchased the spinning reel at a garage sale about eight years ago for a few dollars. When I started this Youtube channel I went to Walmart and purchased the ultralight fishing rod to go with the reel.

I've fished this pond about four times now and every trip have caught several large mouth bass. I got the idea for making this video about fishing for bass with an ultra light rod and reel set up from the homemade MTB (surprise tackle box) challenge I did with the lures I'd purchased from Walmart. In that video I caught a couple of bass using my micro fishing rod rigged with light tackle.

If you've never fished for bass using light tackle I'd highly recommend doing so. It's an absolute blast catching large mouths on an ultra light fishing rod and reel.
