Hi! Thanks for watching. :-) Almost every part of this chicken coop was made using recycled materials, including pallets, leftover MDF from when the previous owner in our house finished the basement, free doors off of FB Marketplace (and our local classifieds), and 2x4s from when someone gutted their basement.

Also, about vinyl and linoleum: I'm doing my best to limit the amount of toxins my chickens are exposed to. Plastic may not bother them, but the more they're exposed to it, the more toxins from the plastic will get passed on through to their eggs. (We also limit plastics in our household, for those who are wondering. For example, we only use glass dishes. It's exciting with little kids. :-) But their future is very important to us.) My parents' chicken coop is almost 20 years old, and they've never protected the plywood on the inside. (They're more holistic like us.) We both use the deep-litter method, which means that all bedding is thick and dry, year round. My ten chickens have been in their coop for over a month now, and the wood hasn't gotten wet yet.

Thanks for asking about that! I'm sure you were curious. :-) Oh, for those who are also not sure: vinyl and linoleum are different products. Linoleum is made from 100% natural materials, which is awesome, but it is incredibly expensive and very hard to find. Pretty much everything being sold these days is vinyl, which is made of a lot of unhealthy and toxic materials.

Don't panic or stress if your coop has vinyl in it - we all start somewhere. :-)
