Title: Exploring applications of variational quantum algorithms in linear algebra
Description: Quantum computing is a rapidly developing field that holds great promise for solving complex problems. However, current quantum computers have limitations, such as a limited number of qubits and susceptibility to errors. To overcome these limitations, Variational Quantum Algorithms (VQAs) have emerged as a promising approach. In this talk, we will explore some of the applications of VQAs. We will discuss the basics of VQAs and provide examples of their use in solving linear algebra problems.

About the speaker: Carlos Bravo-Prieto is a postdoctoral researcher in Jens Eisert's group at the Freie Universität Berlin. He earned his PhD in 2022 under the supervision of José Ignacio Latorre at the University of Barcelona. During his PhD, he spent a few years as a researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and later continued his journey as an associate researcher at the Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi. His research is focused on quantum algorithms, quantum information, condensed matter physics, and machine learning. He is especially interested in the intersection of the aforementioned topics.
