佐原の歴史的町並みにある「樋橋（とよはし）」。架け替え前は農業用水を渡す大樋で、あふれ落ちる水音から「ジャージャー橋」と呼ばれています。「日本の音風景100選」のひとつです。

樋橋は、江戸時代の初期、佐原村の灌漑用水を東岸から西岸に送るため、木製の大きな樋をつくり小野川に架けられたものです。もともとこの橋は、人を渡すためにつくられたものではなく、後に大樋を箱型につくり、丸太の手摺を付け板を敷いて、人が渡れるようになりました。
橋の名は、大樋でつくられたので樋橋といい、また大樋から水がジャージャーと流れ落ちていたので「ジャージャー橋」とも呼ばれました。
昭和に入り、コンクリート製となり、現在の橋は平成四年に架け替えられたものです。

Toyohashi Bridge (Jaja Bridge)

Ja Ja Bridge, officially known as Toyohashi Bridge, is very unusual in that it once functioned as an irrigation channel, occasionally releasing water and creating a waterfall! While the bridge is no longer used for irrigation, it still releases water every 30 minutes on the hour and on the
half hour from 9am to 5pm for tourists to see.

Toyohashi Bridge is a small bridge in Little Edo Sawara that crosses over Ono River. It is unique in that it was once used as an irrigation channel, supplying water from the upper reaches of Ono River to rice paddies that were once below where JR Sawara Station is now through a conduit inside the bridge. During the rice planting season when the water was needed, the holes in the bottom center and both sides of the bridge would be boarded up so that water could flow through the bridge. When water was not needed, the boards were removed and the water would discharge into Ono River. This would create a “ja ja” sound, designating it as one of the 100 Soundscapes of Japan and giving the bridge the nickname “Ja Ja Bridge.”

สะพานโทโยฮาชิ หรืออีกชื่อคือสะพานจาจาบาชิ เดิมเป็นรางส่งน้ำจากแม่น้ำโทเนะกาวะเข้าไปยังพื้นที่เกษตรกรรมด้านใน หลังจากนั้นได้เปลี่ยนจากรางน้ำธรรมดาให้เป็นกล่องรางน้ำอยู่ด้านล่าง มีพื้นไม้ปิดอยู่ด้านบนสำหรับผู้คนเดินข้ามไปมาได้ เมื่อต้องการน้ำในหน้าทำนาจะปิดช่องด้านข้างรางน้ำเพื่อให้น้ำไหลผ่านไปมา เมื่อหมดฤดู ไม่ต้องการน้ำแล้วก็จะเปิดช่องข้างรางน้ำเพื่อให้น้ำไหลสู่แม่น้ำโอโนะกาวะด้านล่างเหมือนปัจจุบัน เปิดให้น้ำไหลทุก 30 นาทีตั้งแต่ 9:00-17:00 ทุกวัน

คำว่า “จาจา” จากชื่อจาจาบาชิ ได้มาจากเสียงของสายน้ำไหล เทียบกับภาษาไทยคือเสียง “ซ่าซ่า”
