Happy New Year! Welcome, once again, to my personal video-taped lesson with guitar legend, Ted Greene!

At the pinnacle of the Y2K bug threat, at the stroke of midnight on January 1st, 2000 when all electronics with an internal calendar-clock were to fail, the electronic apocalypse was averted. I work in IT. I expressed my desire to create a chord melody to commemorate this ‘near-miss’ with none other than Thelonious Monk's “’Round Midnight”. Additionally, I also wanted other songs that shared the same harmonic vibe in order to play them in a medley and Jerome Kern’s “Yesterdays” came to mind. Ted launches into playing a swinging version of it, complete with walking bass. He lays out the progression with several different harmonic approaches to explore this wonderful song in more detail.

Concurrently, we were examining Cesar Pineda’s vintage Guild Starfire, its quirks and virtues, which Ted was considering on buying. Do you remember Cesar? So many of the videos I previously posted on my channel were Cesar’s lessons with Ted.

I promise we will get around to “’Round Midnight” on my next post. If you have not subscribed, do so, and you will be notified once they are posted.
