This week, we're exploring the beautiful village of Cerne Abbas, Dorset, home to a national treasure, the 'rude man on a hill'. The Cerne Abbas Giant is an iconic British landmark, a chalk figure said to be a symbol of fertility.

We are exploring with Claire, her mother Trudy, and Val, her grandmother. Val lived in Cerne Abbas for 60 years, and Trudy spent all her life in Cerne until she married. We uncover the ruins of Cerne Abbey, destroyed by Henry VIII in the 16th Century, and learn about a very important link between the village and some of the first settlers in the American Colonies.

Cerne Abbas was once home to 17 different public houses - impressive considering the relatively small size of the town at the time. We finish by having lunch in one of the three remaining thriving pubs.
