Visiting Luya Foods producing flavor loaded plant-based alternative to meat

As part of our 20th Anniversary celebrations, we continue our series of Startup Visits across Switzerland. Last Tuesday, we visited Luya Foods at their headquarters in Bern where their co-founders Tobias Kistler, Nina Schaller and Flavio Hagenbuch and the team warmly welcomed us.

Founded in 2021, Luya Foods is pioneering a new era of alternative protein with their innovative approach: real ingredients, 100% organic, and naturally fermented.

During our visit we had the change to check their production process closely and check on how they use a tempeh-like fermentation method with only two base ingredients—okara and chickpeas.

Luya’s intelligent manufacturing process provides an environmentally friendly solution: compared to producing the same amount of red meat, Luya can avoid up to 95% of greenhouse gas emissions.
