Growing up in the central west, Jim Fletcher’s career in agriculture started early, a relatively common occurrence, as a little kid on a quiet horse tailing cattle home down the laneway. His earliest memory is simply the smell of an FJ45 Toyota, the type used for water runs in a lot of that country. He enjoyed an eventful life early on in that part of the world droving and working as a company station hand.
After the required period of Agricultural College Jim spent time in the field of agricultural engineering in southeast Queensland before heading north to work for the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPIF). Since then, he has undertaken ‘service to the industry’ that he loves and was born into, providing information on grazing land management, pasture agronomy, ruminant nutrition, genetics, and business management.
