Introduced in 2012 on the community blog LessWrong by Scott Alexander, the author of Slate Star Codex, the non-central fallacy is sometimes referenced in internet debates. In this quick video, we explain what the non-central fallacy is and then point out some issues it might run into.

Humorously, the non-central fallacy might commit the non-central fallacy itself. Perhaps, a way for the non-central fallacy to avoid committing the mistake it categorizes could be to say "you committed a kind of non-central fallacy". In any case, in a conversation, the non-central fallacy will probably still perform its function quite smoothly.
