Written by Mihaela Miroiu more than thirty years ago as a hidden pleasure under communism, "Stories About Cadmav" (2021) takes the reader on a journey of entanglements and discovery that reveals the interior lives of those living under Nicolae Ceausescu’s dictatorship.
Borgesian in construction and plot, the novel challenges us to understand the power of imagination against the power of the police state. The author will be present for the discussion and a reading. She will be joined by a distinguished panel of commentators: Ion Bogdan Lefter, essayist and cultural critic, Radu Vancu, poet, novelist, and president of PEN Romania, Roxana Cazan, writer and senior lecturer at University of Oklahoma, and Maria Bucur, professor of history and gender studies at Indiana University.
The event will be hosted by Mihaela Campion, founder of ARCHER, as a collaboration between ARCHER and the program of Romanian Studies at Indiana University.
