Get in the kitchen with RJ and Retro as we try our hand at a vintage recipe from a 1970 Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook.

Just one problem....

Neither one of us can cook.

Also--RJ hates the main ingredient of the dish. 😆

What will happen?

You might be surprised...

Spring Pastry Puffs (1963)

Ingredients
6 slices of bread
6 slices of processed cheese
Bunch of asparagus (enough to make about 24 pieces)
3 eggs? 6 eggs? (I still don't know 🤦‍♀️)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper (RJ knows what a dash is...color me impressed 😁)

In broiler, toast 6 bread slices on one side. Place a slice of process(ed!) cheese on each untoasted side; broil to partially melt cheese. Remove from heat and place 3 or 4 spears of hot cooked (you gotta COOK it first! 😆) asparagus on top of each cheese slice. Beat (what did those poor eggs ever do to us?) 3 egg yolks til thick and lemon colored, stir in 1/4 cup mayonnaise, (We say add MORE mayo! 😆) 1/4 teaspoon salt, and dash pepper; fold (Witchcraft, I tell ya! 🤬) in 3 stiff-beaten egg whites. Pile (good luck with THAT! 🤭) mixture atop asparagus. Bake at 350° about 13 minutes in till egg mixture is set. Serves 6. (Invite the neighbors over for this delectable treat! 🤪)

Send me retro recipes! Or come help me cook...trust me I need it! 🤣
