This is Episode 1 and we will be visiting Dharidevi, Kalimath & Guptkashi Temple.

DHARIDEVI TEMPLE:
Dhari Devi temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali. It is an ancient, spiritual temple located on the strands of the Alaknanda River between Srinagar and Rudraprayag in the Garhwal Region of Uttarakhand. The temple is the protector of the Char Dham (Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri) in Uttarakhand.

Dhari Devi shrine is one of the 108 shakti sthals.

Devotees worship Goddess Dhari as the upper half of the idol. According to devotees, the goddess changes appearance from a girl, to a woman, and then to an old lady during the day. The lower half of the idol is located in Kalimath where she is worshipped as a manifestation of the Goddess Kali.

KALIMATH TEMPLE:
Dotted with countless shrines and pilgrimage sites, Uttarakhand is often known as the abode of Gods and Goddesses. And of those numerous sacred sites in Uttarakhand, one extremely popular one is Kalimath Temple. Engirdled by Kedarnath mountains, Kalimath Temple lies near the banks of River Saraswati, some 13 km north of Guptkashi, in Rudraprayag district. Devoted to Goddess Kali, the temple is perched at a height of around 1463 m above the sea level and is counted amongst the top religious tourism places in Rudraprayag. As per the Srimad Devi Bhagwat Mahapuran, Kalimath Temple is reckoned to be one of the 108 Shakti Peethas. Not just this, this ancient temple in Uttarakhand also has its mentioned in chapter 62 of Skanda Purana. An interesting fact about Kalimath Temple is that only the lower portion of Goddess Kali is worshipped here, while, the upper half is worshipped at Dhara Devi Temple located between Rudraprayag and Srinagar.

Besides Kali, Goddess Laxmi and Goddess Saraswati are also worshipped here at Kalimath Temple. However, another unique thing about this Kali Mata temple is that a Shakti Yantra is being worshipped here instead of idols and images. Amongst those numerous Hindu festivals, Navratri is one significant event which the temple celebrates with great ardour and devotion. Moreover, some 8 km above the temple, there is located the Kalishila Temple where lies the marks of the footprints of Goddess. As per the beliefs, Kalishila Temple is said to be the place where the goddess thwarted and killed two demons – Nishumbha and Raktabija. Besides, this place is also believed to have 64 Yantras of Gods and Goddess. Kalimath is one of the famous temples of Goddess Kali in India which is thronged with oodles of tourists throughout the year.

GUPTKASHI TEMPLE:
The Vishwanath Temple is located in the town of Gupatakashi in Rudraprayag district and is visited by many devotees all-round the year. The whole district of Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand is named because of the presence of the numerous temples of Lord Shiva or Lord Rudra there and among these the Gupatakashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the prominent ones.

The mythological significance of the Vishwanath Temple is quite high as according to the mythical legends, this is the place where Lord Shiva proposed Lady Parvati for marriage. The Vishwanath Temple is one of the architectural marvel of the region. The high towered Vishwanath Temple is situated in the interior of Guptkashi about 1 KM walk from the center.

In Vishwanath Temple complex a small pond called the Manikarnika Kund, in front of the temple gate, a Shiva-linga is bathed by two springs, representing the rivers Ganges and Yamuna. The Yamuna spring water go out from a goumukh (nose in the shape of a cow’s mouth) and the Ganga spring flows through trunk of an elephant strategically placed above the linga.
