Visiting Mount Umunhum in the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve outside San Jose and Santa Cruz California.

There are multiple options to get to the top of Mount Umunhum via hiking and mountain biking trails. On this trip, we drove to the Upper Parking lot, which is then only 159 stairs from the summit.

The summit offers expansive 360 degree views, including of nearby Mount Hamilton, Mount Diablo and Mount Tamalpais. The Pacific Ocean can also be seen from the summit. There is the remnant of a housing structure for a radio tower that scanned for aircraft in the Cold War - it is called "The Cube," and can be seen from San Jose.
