En octobre 1937, Armand Senécal, commis voyageur pour la compagnie de thé Salada, s’est établi avec sa famille à Noranda. Son travail l’amène à visiter plusieurs villes minières en Abitibi. Il en profite pour tourner quelques images avec sa caméra 8mm.

Ce film amateur au montage rudimentaire rassemble de nombreuses scènes tournées à Noranda au fil des promenades. En plus des nombreuses images de la mine (les chevalements, la fonderie, les cheminées qui fument, etc.), on voit les belles rues larges de Noranda avec ses trottoirs de bois. Cela permet de voir les résidences, mais aussi de nombreux commerces et édifices publics. Nous pouvons notamment percevoir : l’église Notre-Dame-de-Protection, le cinéma Noranda, le bureau de poste, l’aréna, etc.

In the late 1930s, Armand Senécal was a travelling salesman for the Salada Tea Company and visited several mining towns in Abitibi. He took the opportunity to shoot footage with his 8mm camera.

This crudely edited amateur video features many scenes filmed by Senécal during his long walks through the streets of Noranda. There is a lot of footage of the mine (the headframes, the smelter, the smoking chimneys, etc.), and of the wide streets with the boardwalks. You can see houses alongside the many stores and public buildings. You can catch a glimpse of the Notre-Dame-de-Protection church, the Noranda Theatre, the post office, the arena, etc.
