When I talked to the Cleveland Browns about Stoicism and sports, the most important lesson I tried to impress upon them was to tune out everything except for their own playing.

This is the most important teaching of Stoicism, that we NEED to focus on what is in our control, and tune everything else out. It's the only way to move towards happiness and excellence. When we can determine what is and is not in our control, we can make better decisions, let go of things that upset us, and focus on improving our own performance.

Ryan Holiday is the author of The Obstacle Is The Way, Trust Me I'm Lying, Ego Is The Enemy, Conspiracy, The Perennial Seller, and Stillness Is The Key. He has been credited with leading the modern Stoicism movement. Ryan Holiday is also behind the Daily Stoic, a blog, e-mail list, and social media entity dedicated to Stoicism.

Controlling ego is the central idea in this speech by Ryan Holiday. The lecture covers how to beat ego, overcoming ego, success and ego, failure and ego, aspiring and ego, and how to be less egotistical. Ryan Holiday's approach to ego is informed by stoicism and stoic philosophy.
