We know that on December 13, 2021, the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, inaugurated the huge first phase of the Kasi Vishwanathar Temple, which connects the river to the Ganges.The Kasiviswanathar temple complex, which used to be as small as 3,000 square feet, has now been expanded to 500,000 square feet, much to the delight of the Hindus.

During the expansion of the temple, many ancient temples that had been hidden inside the surrounding houses and shops came out, much to the shock and amazement of many. Just then I had a dilemma in my mind. Even after the construction of such a huge Kasi Vishwanathar temple complex and the emergence of many hidden temples, the ancient Vishwanathar temple still looks at the Nandi and Gnanavapi Mosque in a pitiful state ... nostalgia for when the time will come for this. It may have appeared to many like me.

The controversy that may have surrounded Kasi today is centered around the Gnanavapi Mosque. The discovery of a Shiva lingam in the Gnana Vapi Mosque has added to the controversy.

In this post we are going to find out about the reason for the controversy of Gnana Vapi Mosque. The question of who actually owns the site of this mosque has been around for centuries today.This is why the Gnanavapi Masjid is located next to the wall of the Vishwanathar Temple.

Why is it that the Nandi idol, which is usually placed towards Lord Shiva, is seen towards the mosque in an unusual way?
By knowing the cases that the Gnanavapi Mosque encountered and the cause of the controversy, one can find historical data on who actually owned this mosque. This is a place that looks like a mosque today Only, it is referred to as the Mukti Mandapam where Viswanatha was seated. His real capital is the capital that once excelled. Kasi is proud to be one of the most prominent Jyotirlinga sites and the headquarters of the Hindus.

He also ordered the construction of a mosque called 'Gnana Vapi Masjid' on the site of the temple so that the temple would not be rebuilt. Thus, after the destruction of the temple of Viswanatha, the Mukti Mandapam became a part of the mosque by the tyrant Aurangzeb. The city of Varanasi, the chief enlightenment center of the Hindus, and the temple of Viswanatha were looted and demolished by Aurangzeb's forces.

It is said that in order to protect the original lingam of the temple during the invasion, the devotees of the temple hid the original Visvesvara lingam inside the Gnanavapi. Some historians also claim that the chief priest of the temple jumped into the well with the lingam.


இந்த பதிவில் காசி விஸ்வநாதர் கோவிலுக்கு பக்கத்தில் உள்ள சர்ச்சைக்குரிய ஞான வாபி மசூதி பற்றி தெரிந்து கொள்ள போகிறோம். கியான் வாபி என்றும் ஞான வாபி என்றும் அழைக்கப்படும் இந்த மசூதி ஔரங்கசீப்பால் இடித்து காசி விஸ்வநாதர் கோயிலின் மேல் கட்டப்பட்டது என்பது வரலாறு. இந்த மசூதி பற்றிய சர்ச்சையை அறிந்து கொள்வதற்கு முன் காசி விஸ்வநாதர் தலத்தின் சிறப்புகளை கொஞ்சம் தெரிந்து கொள்வோம்.

இன்று காசியைச் சூழ்ந்திருக்கக்கூடிய சர்ச்சை ஞானவாபி மசூதியை மையமாகக் கொண்டது. ஞான வாபி மசூதியில் சிவலிங்கம் கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டது மேலும் சர்ச்சையை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

ஞான வாபி மசூதி சர்ச்சைக்கான காரணத்தை இந்த பதிவில் தெரிந்து கொள்ள போகிறோம். இந்த மசூதியின் இடம் உண்மையில் யாருக்கு சொந்தமானது என்ற கேள்வி இன்றல்ல பல நூற்றாண்டுகளாக இருந்து வருகிறது.

பொதுவாக சிவபெருமானை நோக்கி வைக்கப்படும் நந்தி சிலை வழக்கத்திற்கு மாறான முறையில் மசூதியை நோக்கி காணப்படுவது ஏன்?
ஞானவாபி பள்ளிவாசல் எதிர்கொண்ட வழக்குகள் மற்றும் சர்ச்சைக்கான காரணங்களை அறிந்துகொள்வதன் மூலம், இந்த மசூதி உண்மையில் யாருக்கு சொந்தமானது என்பதற்கான வரலாற்றுத் தகவல்களைக் காணலாம். இன்று மசூதி போல் காட்சியளிக்கும் இந்த இடம் விஸ்வநாதர் அமர்ந்த முக்தி மண்டபம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. அவரது உண்மையான மூலஸ்தானமாக ஒரு காலத்தில் சிறந்து விளங்கியது.

1669 இல், ஔரங்கசீப் விஸ்வநாதர் கோயிலை இடிக்க உத்தரவிட்டார். மேலும் கோயில் புனரமைக்கப்படாமல் இருக்க, கோயில் இருந்த இடத்தில் ‘ஞான வாபி மஸ்ஜித்’ என்ற மசூதியைக் கட்ட உத்தரவிட்டார். இவ்வாறு, விஸ்வநாதரின் கோயில் அழிக்கப்பட்ட பிறகு, கொடுங்கோலன் அவுரங்கசீப்பால் முக்தி மண்டபம் மசூதியின் ஒரு பகுதியாக மாறியது. இந்துக்களின் முக்கிய ஞான மையமான வாரணாசி நகரமும், விஸ்வநாதர் கோயிலும் அவுரங்கசீப்பின் படைகளால் சூறையாடப்பட்டு இடித்துத் தள்ளப்பட்டன.இந்த வரலாறு குறித்து இப்பதிவில் நாம் முழுமையாக அறிந்துகொள்ளலாம்.
