In 1949, Bristol released a new lowbridge bus called the Lodekka. Designed it address the uncomfortable situation with low-roofed double deck buses of the time, it was quite successful. The problem was that sales were restricted only to state-owned bus companies.

In 1958, Dennis debuted its alternative - the Loline. This bus was actually an improvement over the Lodekka in some ways, and was a bus with the same characteristics that can now be sold to non-state-owned bus companies.

The problem is that the Loline was very limited in production, and a significant price increase was approved by Dennis, that led to order cancellations.
