Mick Verspuij from Boomtreebees talks about using loghives to rewild native Irish dark honey bees (Apis mellifera mellifera), establishing conservation areas throughout Ireland, and the importance of protecting veteran trees, especially those containing cavities.

This is the third of three talks presented during the Honey Bee Watch symposium on 20 June 2024, "Tree Cavities: Homes and Biomes for Bees & Other Organisms." Be sure to watch our other two guests' videos too: Kevin Smith from USDA Forest Service (US) and Barbara Zajdel from Warsaw University of Life Sciences (PL).

The Honey Bee Watch Symposia Series focuses on issues integral to free-living honey bee research — such as bee-lining, tree cavities, wild bees, and citizen science in 2024 — with invited guests presenting a brief overview of their projects, plus experiences with and thoughts on the respective topics.
