I will quote it as it is from the pamphlet published by Ansan Hiyoshi Shrine.

100 Famous Waters of Heisei Hakusan Mikawa Underground Water Group
In May 2008, 100 locations were selected from among springs, rivers, irrigation water, and groundwater from all over Japan. It is said that the Ministry of the Environment selected the "Toyako Summit" held in July of the same year because the agenda centered on environmental issues.
In 1985, the "100 Best Waters" were selected, and since more than 20 years have passed since this "100 Best Waters", there is a possibility that the surrounding situation has changed. In light of changes in the environment and social conditions, the Ministry of the Environment has selected 100 locations in the "100 Best Waters of the Heisei Era" in addition to the current "100 Best Waters" for the purpose of further promoting the conservation of the water environment, especially those with clear water that is integrated into local life, and in particular, those that are voluntarily and continuously engaged in water environment conservation activities by local residents. The 100 best waters in Japan have been selected for 200 in total. Four locations were selected from Ishikawa Prefecture this time, bringing the total to seven locations, including three of the 100 best waters of the Showa era.
