‘Our Future Will Become the Past of Other Women’ was commissioned by the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations at the suggestion of the Royal Irish Academy. The poem marks the 100 year anniversary of the women of Ireland, Mná na hÉireann, obtaining suffrage and first casting their ballots in 1918. Eavan Boland, one of Ireland’s greatest poets, created this beautiful work to mark this anniversary. The Royal Irish Academy then commissioned artist Paula McGloinn to bring Eavan’s deeply moving words to life. The work was first presented at the UN in New York on 5 December 2018.
