2019 Ford Expedition, 3.5L v6 ecoboost,
90k miles. Just had the ford dealership replace the camshaft phasers, they were rattling on cold start. They also replaced the timing chain and chain tensioners under warranty, thankfully because I asked them too.
Get the car back and it starts overheating when load is on the engine. Did my own research and saw where another ford mechanic said the thermostat was more than likely the issue. The factory one has a metal sleeve that will cause it not to open and close properly. (Maybe because they had to drain the coolant system?) Didn’t feel like I could convince the dealership to try and replace the thermostat right off the bat, so tackled it myself. Not the first time I’ve have to replace a thermostat on a vehicle before.
Ford has a new/updated thermostat with a different part number as you will see in the video. Enjoy!!
