"So, do I have friends now?" - "No. I have people that I know, people that I like, and colleagues, but no, I don't have a social life. For example, take Emma White—I've worked with her for seven years now. She's never been to my house, we've never done anything socially, and I've never met her husband. I've met her daughter once.

This is someone who's been there for me, like on the phone when I was in tears in Singapore, trying to figure out how to get through a million-pound cash deficit, or at that acquisition event—she’s been with me through all of that. But socially? No. I don’t see her outside of work. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. I care about her, but I don't care about what she did over the weekend or what her plans are for Christmas. I just want her to be happy, and as long as she's happy, that's enough for me."
