MALASHREE I AN ANCIENT VERSION

According to Dafa processing, the function of Raag Malashree is performed from karya Astami to Kojagrat Purnima by playing and singing. Especially from Ghatasthapana to Bijaya Dashami, maximum songs are played. Raag Malashree is also performed during Chaite Dashain. According to our research, 12 to 15 songs are found on Raag Malashree including maximum songs of Devi Mahisasur Mardani Durga Bhavani, Bhagwati, Astamatrika and some Gods including Ganesh and Bhairav.
It is difficult to predict exact date regarding the innovation but it is confirmed to have innovated during Malla Dynasty.
Even though there is Dafa Bhajan trend of having many songs on Raag Malashree, we are used to with only one Malashree which is very popular in media.
Our ancestors have created many Malashree Raag based songs which are now limited within Dafa Bhajan and some are in the verge of disappearing. On the basis of this fact, in this Dashain we have performed some traditional music and its song based on Malashree Raag which are in Sanskrit and Nepal bhasa . Whatever maybe the language, the main intent of the song is devotion towards God.
In this video, we have included 3 different songs of Malashree and its music. Among them, the first one is the popular music of Patan, Lalitpur in which the description of Goddesses Astamimatrika is done on taal jati 7/8 part of beat. Its music and last verse of song has also been included in this part.
Second one is the traditional Raag Malashree of Lubhu, Lalitpur where its music i.e. taal jati 7/8 part portrays killing of Sumbha Nisumbha by Goddess Bhawani. Same song in fourth part in taal prataal 7/8 with song with first verse.
Thirdly, we are presenting the Raag Malashree’s music that is played and sang with Mawahali (Sahanai), Basuri and Dafa Bhajan which is mostly popular among the 3 different cities of Kathmandu valley during Dashain festival. It is in taal choo 4/4 beat.
Our main aim is to preserve Nepal’s Arts and Culture which had been protected by our ancestors and also to highlight its importance among the global community. Hope you will like it.
