Daniel Aßmann explores the Friesland region, which is considered the most beautiful and idiosyncratic of the twelve Dutch provinces. There is a lot to discover on a holiday in the north of Holland, because the proud Frisians have their own language, customs and traditions. The oldest horse breed in Europe is famous, but pulse stick jumping is less well known, and hand-made clogs and ceramics are popular with tourists. Daniel Aßmann explores the region on a "Solex", a moped popular in Friesland.

Frisian is the official language here, spoken alongside Dutch. The history of the province (capital Leeuwarden) can be traced back to the years between 400 and 200 BC. In the 15th century the province was even independent for a short time.

Because Friesland is a water sports paradise with the IJsselmeer, countless waterways and many smaller lakes, Daniel Aßmann climbs into a "Skûtsje", a Frisian flat-bottomed boat, in the "de Alde Feanen" national park. In Leeuwarden, he visits a former prison that is now a cultural and meeting center. In the Dark Sky Park Lauwersmeer he becomes a stargazer.
