"The birds have gathered, they are migrating
If only for that alone I loved you..."

The owner of this poem is Cemal Süreya Dersimli. His life in exile began at the age of seven. He is put in a freight wagon with his family and exiled to Bilecik. His mother is only 23 years old, but dies in the sixth month of exile. Süreya bury her mother at the age of seven... Then she goes to Istanbul to her uncle for education. His father and brother follow him. But three years later, the police raided the house where they were staying. Since they left Bilecik without permission, they are sent back to the place of exile. They enroll Cemal Süreya in his free boarding school. In his own words, he is now both exiled, penniless and boarding. He goes through all this pain. But he does not get angry with life, he does not get angry with his country, he does not get offended with people. And he becomes the greatest love poet of Turkish to Turkey.

Don't be offended...

Even writing a love poem in geographies where lovelessness is imposed is a rebellion in itself.
