As a traveler, I see Albania as a uniquely wild and authentic place with its distinct Balkan vibe and friendly locals. In a time when rewilding and renaturalization are becoming more mainstream, it's important to recognize that Albania's nature remains some of the most original and untouched in Europe. The country is sitting on a treasure of immense, often underappreciated, value.
However, Albania is also one of Europe's poorest countries, with many locals working abroad to support their families. The increase in tourism brings mixed feelings among the population. Some hope it will create jobs and lead to a prosperous future, while others fear that it might harm the country's natural beauty and cultural identity. In this video that connects travel vlog and documentary I try to shine a light on the price that Albania is about to pay for a fast increase in tourism and why the places that are about to be sacrificed for that are worth protecting.
