The Pyramids of Giza are some of the most iconic and enduring symbols of ancient Egypt. Located on the Giza Plateau near Cairo, these structures were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom period, around 2580–2560 BC. The three primary pyramids at Giza are the Great Pyramid of Khufu or Cheops, the Pyramid of Khafre or Chephren, and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure or Mykerinos, along with several smaller pyramids, temples, and the famous Sphinx.
The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest and most famous of the three. The purpose of the pyramids was primarily as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens, intended to safeguard their bodies and possessions for the afterlife.
Despite the passage of millennia, the Pyramids of Giza continue to captivate and intrigue people from around the world.
