This collaborative project explores a multitude of themes and stigmas associated with motherhood through a series of environmental portraits and interviews with women, some mothers, some not. The primary aim of which was to provide an accessible platform for women to share their experiences of choice, pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, expectation and adoption, as well as issues concerning mental health, post-natal depression, alienation, and trauma.

Through these portraits and testimonies, I hope this body of work resonates with other women and raises awareness, amongst men and women alike, of individuality and specificity within differing experiences of motherhood. Subsequently, I hope that it highlights the importance of open discussion and peer support in attempting to overcome hardship.

I have found this to be a very emotional experience but also an enriching and empowering one, I have learnt so much, and I would like to thank these strong, resilient women for their openness and for sharing their stories, indeed, without their participation, this project would not have been possible.
