All About Critical Care & ICU | Episode 47 | Lets Talk Health
Critical care is offered to the patients who are dealing with life threatening diseases and injuries. Commander Navneet Bali, Regional Director - North Region and Dr. Sachin Gupta at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Gurugram talk about Critical Care and ICU.
Why are some patients admitted in ICU?
The intensive care unit, or ICU, is mostly necessary for patients with complex conditions irrespective of age.
What is the role of ICU doctor?
The medical personnel or doctors in the ICU give constant care to these patients as they receive special training to handle critical cases. The primary consultant is a case expert (kidney, heart, etc.) who knows in-depth information and collaborates with other doctors to carry out the treatment.
Do ICU nurses get special training?
Yes, ICU nurses or critical care nurses are trained differently than other nurses. ICU nurses regularly monitor the patients' health indicators and respond to urgent medical requirements.
Why are attendants not allowed in ICU?
There are multiple patients in an ICU suffering from severe health condtions. Due to immunocompromised patients, the risk profile in an ICU grows. The infection can be passed from attendant to patient or from patient to attendant. In such instances, doctors may place patients in isolation rooms if they are in a severe or terminal condition.
