Kids with Autism LOVE trains! Here are some ideas for playing in a therapeutic way at a beginner level with kids you know who might have an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Hi! My name is Christie I am a Speech-Language Pathologist (M.S., CCC-SLP) who has specialized in supporting children with communication disorders, cognitive delays, and behavior challenges (and their families!) since 2001. I have worked with a variety of developmental (from birth) and acquired (after trauma) diagnoses in public schools, private schools, private clinics, and in families' homes, as well as in church settings. During that time, my focus has been on providing love and support to children with disabilities and their families. My desire is to equip families, educators, and volunteers with strategies and tools that will help them support and understand the children in their lives, especially those with diagnoses and developmental differences. Whenever you believe a child has atypical sensory needs, it's a good idea to find a qualified Occupational Therapist who's a specialist in sensory integration (not all of them are!) A professional can definitely help you understand your child's needs better and work with you to figure out how to meet those needs in more appropriate ways.
