Harmonium solo Live in concert at Glasgow, Scotland. Tabla accompaniment done by the great Pt. Abhijit Banerjee.
Here the season cycle is portrayed by the seasonal raagas in the order as follows :
Raaga Hemant in Vilambit Teentaal - Portrays Autumn
Raaga Paraj Basant in Drut Ektaal - Portrays Spring
Raaga Mia Ki Malhar in Drut Teentaal - Portrays Monsoon
About the Raagas :
Hemant - is a very melodious Raag. In Raag Kaushik-Dhwani when Pancham and Rishabh are used in Avroh, Raag Hemant is conceived. In this Raag, Rishabh is used as a straight note like G R S whereas use of Pancham is somewhat Alp and is used either in Meend or as a Kan-Swar like D (P)m or m (P)m.
Paraj Basant - is a Raag for Spring (Basant) season. It is rendered mostly in Madhya and Tar Saptaks. Songs depicting description of the season, besides Shringar and Virah (Separation Pangs) Ras are common.
The Chalan of Raag Basant is influenced by Raag Shree like: N r' S' ; r' N d P. However in Raag Basant, Rishabh is not elongated like Raag Shree. The Raag Vachak Swar Sangati of Basant is P ; M G M G where the second Madhyam is elongated. Shuddha Madhyam is employed occasionally as S m m G.
Mia Ki Malhar - is also referred to as 'Miya Malhar' since it was a wonderful creation by Sangeet Samrat Miya Tansen. The combinations of the melody can really ape the vagaries of nature in the thunder of clouds and the rain torrents falling from sky onto the earth. The Shuddha Nishad of Madra Saptak makes the Raag very impressive and sweet rendering requires bold presentation of the combinations to enthral the audience with the Raag mood.
