In this video I show the electrophilic aromatic substitution as a typical reaction mechanism of aromatics using the example of the halogenation of benzene. The intermediate products of a pi complex and a sigma complex are described in an energy diagram. The regioselectivity of the second substitution is explained with the help of the positive mesomeric effect (+M).
