⛰️ About Songiri Killa:

There are many forts and treks in Karjat Taluka, Raigad District, but Songiri Fort is relatively unknown. Few people visit the fort, making the trek route less clearly marked. The trek typically starts from Palasdari Station or Newali village. Also known as Palasdari Fort, the trail from Palasdari Station involves passing through train tracks and a tunnel. Alternatively, you can reach Avalas village and then Newali village from the station to access the fort. Navigating the path can be challenging, especially during monsoons.

Standing at about 2,500 feet, the fort is a two-hour hike from Newali village. Newali village is 70 km from Mumbai and 90 km from Pune. The trek path varies, passing through dense thickets, plateaus, and tall grass. On the fort, you'll find two water tanks—one with water and one dry—and remnants of fortifications, indicating its historical use for surveillance.

The fort’s strategic location offers panoramic views of numerous forts and peaks in the Sahyadri mountain range across Raigad and Pune districts. Visible landmarks include Sondai Fort, Matheran, Peb Fort (Vikatgad), Prabalgad, Irshalgad, and Morbe Dam reservoir to the west. To the south, a peak in the Khandala ghat, known as Nagfani hill (Duke's Nose), stands out. To the east, you can see Rajmachi forts, Manranjan and Shrivardhan, and to the north, Dhak Bahiri alongside the Kalkarai peak is identifiable.
