SAXONS in Morecambe Bay!

These finds are heading for Lancaster Museum.

I have been lucky enough to find a small area with Anglo Saxon artefacts and coins in North Lancashire where they are quite rare.

They included (hopefully so far) seven/eight coins, including one Sceat, (Sceattas) continental porcupine type (710 AD) and six Styca. There is also one silver Roman siliqua that appears to be have cut to the size of the Saxon coins and may have been used as a Scear.

The artefacts included four strap ends, two parchment stamps, hack silver. pin heads, gaming pieces.

There are also a lot of lead items including spindle whorls, loom or fishing weights. There is also some iron that might be from the same time period.

And a giant lead bucket!
