Here’s a quick video I threw together on my Scott Atwater Gold Pennant 7.5. This motor is one of my absolute favorites, and has never left me stranded.

I was given it probably 12 years ago, at which point in time it was in pretty rough mechanical shape. It was seized, the shift linkage was stuck, and it was on its way to the scrapyard. With a little tinkering, and a lot of PB Blaster, she makes a pretty great little fishing motor!

The Gold Pennant in my opinion, marks the dawn of the modern outboard motor. With a fuel pump, as opposed to OMC’s pressure tank, a twist grip throttle, and full gear shift, this motor brought to the table many of the conveniences we see as necessities now a days.

Sadly, the gold pennant was only a 1 year motor, only being produced in 53’. In 54’, Scott Atwater came out with the ill fated Bail-O-Matic system, which while cool on paper, more or less destroys the functionality of the rest of the engine.
