Estrogen is crucial for a successful pregnancy! In fact, estrogen is one factor that helps you get pregnant in the first place.

Estrogen is the dominant hormone during the first half of your cycle — the follicular phase. In the beginning of your cycle, your brain sends a signal to your body to start producing a follicle stimulating hormone (aka a hormone that helps your follicles grow and mature). Then as these are growing your body produces estrogen.

The estrogen not only thickens your uterine lining in preparation for implantation, it is also creates fertile cervical mucus. This is important because if you are trying to conceive, this allows sperm to live in your reproductive track, and have more fertile days. That means you can have days a few days before ovulation and you can still get pregnant when you ovulate.
