This is the English (or right-handed, throwing) method that is equivalent to the German Twisted Cast On. The left-hand thumb activity is slightly different, but it creates the exact same structure -- a springy, stretchy, elastic cast on that's perfect for top-down socks, stretchy collar openings, or any edge really, whether it needs to be stretchy or not.
