The patroness of the United States and the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois is Mary. So, in a fitting way to begin this day of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage procession was Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. This leg of the pilgrimage also saw the many pilgrims come from outside the diocese, a reminder of the universal Church in action. Celebrating Mass was Bishop Paprocki. After Mass, a long journey of taking Jesus through Springfield neighborhoods began. Stops along the journey included Blessed Sacrament Church for Benediction, then Sacred Heart Convent of the Springfield Dominican Sisters for Benediction, and then to St. Agnes Church for Benediction.
