Over the course of 8 weeks, children are learning all about what they can do to make a difference.

At the Buddhist Tzu Chi Education Foundation’s 2024 Summer Camp in Walnut, CA, children aged K to 5th grade are getting interactive and engaging lessons that connect them with the natural world, educate them about the importance of protecting our planet, and teach them about being respectful of others.

Camp Director Vicky Shao explains that “the themes of our summer camp this year are vegetarianism, filial piety, compassion, and environmental protection.”

About its impact? Parents are taking notice.

Pauline Shih, whose daughter is enrolled this summer, says that her daughter “brings home all this composting material and she teaches us how to do it… She's very influenced by conserving and recycling and saving the environment.”

Another, Tammy Chang, told us that her daughter’s become just as eco-conscious: “for example, when I want to use disposable utensils my child tells me, ‘The Tzu Chi teacher said that isn’t environmentally friendly… so we shouldn’t use them!’”
