Just like Earth's history, the story of life is full of remarkable events. Despite facing mass extinction events, life on Earth has always found a way to survive and adapt. Even seemingly improbable transitions, like the rise of multicellular organisms from single-celled ones, have occurred independently at least 25 times on Earth!

നമ്മുടെയൊക്കെ ശരീരം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത് വിവിധ തരം cells അഥവാ കോശങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ടാണ് എന്ന് നമുക്കറിയാം. നമ്മൾ അടക്കം ഇന്ന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന മിക്കവാറും ജീവികളുടെയൊക്കെ കോശങ്ങളുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ 200 കോടി വർഷം മുൻപ് കയറി കൂടിയ ഒരു ഏക കോശ ജീവിയുടെ പിൻഗാമികൾ ഉണ്ട്. നമ്മുടെ കോശങ്ങളുടെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഒരു function ചെയ്യുന്നത് കോശങ്ങൾക്കുളിൽ പണ്ട് കടന്നു കൂടിയ ഈ വരുത്തൻ ആണ്. പണ്ടത്തെ ഈ ഏക കോശ ജീവി, ഇന്ന് നമ്മുടെ കോശങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു പ്രധാന ഘടകമായി മാറി കഴിഞ്ഞു. എങ്കിലും നമ്മുടെ DNA യിൽ നിന്നും തികച്ചും വ്യത്യസ്തമായി, സ്വന്തമായ ഒരു DNA ഇവക്ക് ഇന്നുമുണ്ട്. ഭൂമിയിൽ ഇന്ന് കാണുന്ന complex Life Forms ഒക്കെ ഉണ്ടാകാൻ പ്രധാന കാരണമായത് നമ്മുടെ കോശങ്ങളിൽ പണ്ട് കടന്നു കൂടിയ ഈ സഹജീവിയാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെ ജീവന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന Turning point ആണ് ഈ ഒരു സഹവർത്തിത്വത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭം.
ഭൂമിയുടെ ചരിത്രം എന്ന പോലെ തന്നെ വളരെ സംഭവ ബഹുലമാണ് ഭൂമിയിലെ ജീവന്റെ ചരിത്രവും. Mass extinction events അഥവാ കൂട്ട വംശനാശ സംഭവങ്ങൾ ഭൂമിയുടെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ പല തവണ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, ഏതു വിധേനെയും Survive ചെയ്യും എന്ന ഒരു നിശ്ചയദാർഢ്യം ഭൂമിയിലെ ജീവൻ എക്കാലത്തും കാണിച്ചിരുന്നു. വളരെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുള്ള സ്റ്റേജുകൾ എന്ന് നമ്മൾ കരുതുന്ന പല അവസരങ്ങളും ജീവൻ വളരെ നിസ്സാരമായിട്ടു തരണം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇപ്പൊ ഉദാഹരണത്തിന്, ഏകകോശ ജീവികളിൽ നിന്നും ബഹുകോശ ജീവികൾ ഉണ്ടായി വരിക എന്ന സംഭവം അത്ര എളുപ്പം നടക്കാൻ സാധ്യതയുള്ള സംഭവമല്ല എന്ന് നമുക്ക് തോന്നും. എന്നാൽ ഭൂമിയിലെ ജീവന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ചുരുങ്ങിയത് 25 തവണയെങ്കിലും ഇത് സ്വാതന്ത്രമായിട്ട് സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഒരു തവണ നമ്മൾ തയ്യാറാക്കിയ ഒരു Laborotary പരീക്ഷണത്തിലും ഇത് സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഏത് ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടേറിയ സാഹചര്യത്തിലും, ഭൂമിയിലെ ജീവൻ, അതിനു മുന്നോട്ടു പോകാനുള്ള വഴി എന്നും കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ഭൂമിയിലെ ജീവന്റെ 380 കോടി വർഷത്തെ ചരിത്രത്തിനിടയിൽ, പ്രധാന വഴിത്തിരിവുകൾ ആയി മാറിയ 7 സംഭവങ്ങൾ ആണ് ഇന്നത്തെ വിഡിയോയിൽ കാണാൻ പോകുന്നത്.
