St. John's Day falls on June 24 every year. In 2022 it will be 750 years since Gouda received city rights. This gave St. John's Day extra cachet through a concert in the Gouda St. John. City organist Gerben Budding composed and compiled a continuous musical performance about the life of Gouda's city patron, John the Baptist.

Gerben Budding (1987) is internationally active as a concert organist and church musician. He is the main organist of the Gouda St. John's Church and plays the beautiful Moreau organ from 1736. As a vesper organist he is also associated with the Utrecht Dom Church with the famous Bätz organ from 1831.

He received his training at the Utrecht Conservatory. There he obtained a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Organ with Improvisation (both summa cum laude), a first-degree qualification as a Church Musician and a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Choir Conducting (with distinction).

He won the first prize at the international organ competition 'Agati-Tronci' in Pistoia (Italy), the second prize at the International Schnitger Competition in Alkmaar, the Litaize Prize at the International César Franck Competition in Haarlem and the audience prize at the improvisation competition in Dudelange. (Luxembourg).
